Recent Update

Subject: Transition Update #2 from the Elder Board of Directors
Week of 22-26 March

Greetings in the Precious Name of our Lord,

The Christ Chapel Elder Board remains committed to keeping you informed of our Senior Pastor
transition process. This update reinforces our promise to communicate frequently to ensure a
seamless and transparent succession process.

Since February 1, the Elder Board has joined weekly at 6am for Monday morning prayer. This
has been our time to collectively seek God, His wisdom, His guidance, and His plan for Christ
Chapel. Our hearts’ desire is that His Holy Spirit would guide our search, our actions, our
discussions, and our decisions.

With assistance from the church staff, we’ve completed a number of actions since our first
transition update to you in February: We added a page to our church website that will give you real-time updates on this transition process. (https://www.christchapellife.org/pastor-roberts-retirement). We created a “frequently asked questions” page to address your questions and
concerns (https://www.christchapellife.org/retirement-faqs).

An email mailbox has been created to allow you to submit your questions to the Communications Committee at questions@christchapel.org. We’ll be sure to provide you a prompt response.

The job announcement for our Senior Pastor position opened on March 16 th and has been posted to our Christ Chapel and several ministry recruiting websites. Potential applicants can review the position description and qualifications; and if led may submit a resume and required supporting documents to: leadpastorapp@christchapel.org. This announcement closes on April 7 th . Upon closure, the nominating committee will review resumes and begin the interview process.

We are in the early stages of planning a wonderful celebration for our retiring and incoming
Senior Pastors. We’ll provide these details in the weeks ahead.

Your ongoing prayers remain vital to this transition and for the unity of believers at Christ
Chapel. In addition to your individual and Life Group prayer time, we highly encourage you join
us during our weekly church-wide prayer sessions on Thursday evenings.

We look forward to providing you with future updates as we transition to an exciting, new
season at Christ Chapel.

Thank you and may God richly bless you,

Elder Bruce A. Thomas

Transition Update from the Elder Board of Directors

Week of 22-26 February

Greetings in the Precious Name of our Lord,

The body of Christ at Christ Chapel has been extremely blessed for the past 33 years to have Pastor Bill Roberts as our Senior Pastor, and Sister Lynna as our First Lady. Under their faithful servant-leadership, we have seen an enormous growth and countless hearts touched through Christ Chapel Ministries and the Academy. Pastor Roberts recently announced to the Elder Board of Directors, and subsequently to the Christ Chapel members, that he will be retiring as Senior Pastor with a target date of June 30, 2021.  We look forward in the months ahead to celebrating the grace of God at work through Pastor Roberts and Sister Lynna.

While we have gained a deep affection and appreciation for the years of love demonstrated by our Pastor and First Lady, we’re equally excited for what God is going to do through Christ Chapel in the future. It is imperative that Christ Chapel implement a smooth transition in the change of leadership that aligns with God’s plan and furthers our mission to “Reach, Teach, and Unleash.” The Elder Board believes it is vital to keep you and our members well informed on the implementation plan and progress throughout this transition. Our promise is to communicate frequently to ensure a seamless and transparent succession process.

About the process: In accordance with the Christ Chapel Constitution and By-Laws, the Elder Board has the responsibility of selecting the next Senior Pastor who meets the qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. It also provides the selection process which consists of a nominating committee with an elected chairman. We are pleased that Elder Reggie Terry will chair the nominating committee.

You the Members of Christ Chapel, also play a critical role in the seamless transition and succession process. Upon recommendation of a specific candidate to the Elder Board, the Elder Board will present the candidate to the Christ Chapel membership for a confirmation vote as the new Senior Pastor.

Most important, we need you to join the Elder Board and Deacons in prayer. As a body, we must set aside our individual desires and preferences, and collectively seek and trust God’s perfect will for Christ Chapel. Because change can cause anxiety and bring challenges, your prayers will provide needed substantive covering for the unity of believers at Christ Chapel. We have established an intercessory prayer group led by Elder James Hunt. In addition to your individual prayer time, we encourage you to join our weekly church-wide prayer sessions on Thursday evenings.

Finally, we’ve formed a Transition Communications Committee consisting of myself, Elder David Gmaz, and select members of the Christ Chapel staff. Over the weeks and months ahead, we will share transition information and updates through emails, social media, website, and during Sunday Services. We are adding a “Frequently Asked Questions” page to our website to address common concerns.  Recognizing that communication is a two-way process, please feel free to email your specific questions or suggestions to the Communications Committee at questions@christchapel.org, and we’ll be sure to provide you a response.

We look forward to providing you with future updates as we transition to an exciting new season at Christ Chapel.

Thank you and may God richly bless you,

An Important Message from Pastor Bill Roberts

February 22, 2021

Dear Friends:

Warm Greetings in the Precious and Wonderful Name of Jesus!

At the close of Sunday’s worship service, Lynna and I announced our intent to retire from our calling as Christ Chapel’s senior pastor and have established June 30 as our target date. After nearly 33 years of serving the Lord and his people here, we are looking with great anticipation toward retirement and to rejoining our family in the Pacific Northwest.

Serving here at Christ Chapel has brought us great joy. During our tenure, we have met so many wonderful people who have touched our hearts in ways we will never forget. We have been blessed immensely.

During our remaining time here, we will be working closely with our Elders to identify a qualified candidate to assume the role as your Senior Pastor. Once identified, the qualified candidate will be presented to the church membership for ratification in accordance with Christ Chapel’s Constitution and Bylaws.

To facilitate the process, the Elders have formed a nominating committee headed by Elder Reggie Terry; a communication’s committee headed by Elder Bruce Thomas; a prayer committee headed by Elder James Hunt; and a celebration committee, which will include the entire Elder board. These committees have begun their work and will be communicating regular updates of their progress to you as well as answering any questions that may arise during the process.

Many have already asked, “How can I help?” Allow me to say you can play a large part in the process by joining with Lynna and I and your great Elder team in prayer, as we seek God’s direction in this very important matter. I also ask that you join with us in believing that the best is yet to come for our great church.

Love in Christ,

Pastor Bill Roberts
