Anxious for Nothing - Session 2
Let Your Gentleness Be Evident To All
Reminder: Watch this video the week of May 10th - May 16th
This week, Max Lucado shares encouraging insight into how we can live with a heart of calmness and a spirit of gentleness even in the midst of chaos and trials that seem to always land in our lives. You may not need this word today (we hope you don't!); but rest assured that if not today then soon, you will! Join us as we see God's prescription for a calm and gentle spirit; straight from the pages of Paul's letter to the Philippians...
SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK
Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
~ Philippians 4:5 (NIV)
We sincerely believe this five-week online study will encourage you as you learn to deal with your worries, concerns and anxious moments in the light of God's Word. Let us encourage you, after watching each weeks' video teaching segment (and reading the corollary readings in the book and study guide if you've purchased those); to review the discussion questions we provide below. If you're doing this study "solo", let these prompt you in your prayer time, as you journal, or simply to ponder during your study time. If you are in a group setting for this study (face-to-face with others, or via social media or online tools); you may wish to discuss these with others in your "group".
Questions to ponder, journal, or discuss with others enjoying this study with you:
Can you name an incident (or multiple incidents) when the concerns and cares of this world were weighing you down and now, with hindsight you can clearly see how God brought you through that situation?
Why do you think we all struggle so with stopping and asking God for help?
Read Philippians 4:5-6 without any pause between the end of verse 5 and the beginning of verse 6. How does the understanding that the Lord is near (vs. 5) help you to live out the commands of verse 6?
Honestly now, do you often find prayer your last resort, perhaps only when you reach a certain level of desperation? How do these verses from today’s session encourage you to change that sequencing when facing something that makes you anxious or stressed?
